Geraldine (Gerry) M. Harrington  left her earthly bonds on March 16, 2016 at the age of 92. Born in Posen MI on July 9, 1923 to Walter L. and Anna M. Adams, Gerry grew up near Alpena on Grand Lake and moved to Detroit as a young adult to work at Hudson Motor Car Company. During WWII she joined the Marines because it was “the right thing to do”. Ultimately stationed at the airfield at Cherry Point, NC, she worked in the air traffic control tower and reached the rank of corporal. Like all Marines, Gerry was “always a Marine”. Following the end of the war, she married her sweetheart Bertil A. Benson, with whom she was able to celebrate nearly 25 years of marriage and with whom she raised two children: Beverly Benson Wolf and Bertil Allan Benson. After the death of her first husband, Gerry married Robert L. Harrington. Soon after they were married, Gerry and Bob moved from Michigan to Hudson, FL where they spent over 25 years together. Following Bob’s death, Gerry returned to Waterford, MI where she spent her remaining years loving and being loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many dear friends.Gerry was an exceptionally social woman and relished hosting and participating in gatherings, both family events and parties with friends. Wherever she was, friends gathered and enjoyed life. Her family was the most important part of her earthly life and she was very proud of her children and grandchildren and their life’s accomplishments. Gerry was a deeply religious woman, born into a strongly based Catholic family. She maintained her deep and abiding faith all her life, and her biggest burden when bedridden at the end of her life was not being able to attend Mass. She knew God put her on earth to live life to its fullest, but she never lost sight of the ultimate end. Gerry is survived by her daughter Beverly and son-in-law David Wolf; son Allan and daughter-in-law Nancy J. Hill; granddaughters Kristy Spann and Amanda Shelton (Larry); grandson Anders Benson (Mariana); Keith Wolf; Kevin Wolf (Mary) ; great grandchildren Clay Spann, and Emerson and Archer Shelton; Jared Rice, Jessica, Kaitlyn and Mia Wolf; stepson Robert Harrington; and many nephews and nieces. A memorial service is being planned by the family for late spring.
