William "Bill" Mitchell  of West Bloomfield; born October 8, 1926, to George and Ella Mitchell; husband of Edna Mitchell for 59 years; dear father of Allison Mitchell, Georgiann Omand (Keith), Toni Sova (Mike), Christine Roman (Ron) and loving son James; grandfather and hero to 12 devoted grandchildren and 2 precious great-grandchildren; dear brother of Tony Mitchell and the late Paul Mitchell and Despina Nicholas. Bill is best known as the co-owner of Mitch’s Tavern and Mitch’s II, of Waterford. His restaurant savvy and ingenuity was a catalyst for the inception of many other restaurants in the Metro area. Bill made Greek salad and bread a household word. Member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and founding member of St. Katherine’s in Naples, FL. Devoted philanthropist, beloved mentor and friend to many. He served in the US Navy during WWII and was a proud veteran. Bill loved fishing, hunting, cigars, boating and spent many happy days sailing in the Gulf, at his residence in Marco Island. There he was best known as “Mr. Marco Island”. A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Rev. Angelo Mago celebrant. Interment with Honors to follow at Franklin Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Monday 2-8 p.m. Trisagion 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
