Kathleen Eleanor Waldrop (Barnes)
aka K.E. “Kathy” McBride (Wayne “Mac”), Kathy Hatfield (Robert L. “Bob”), Kathy Waldrop (James D. “Jim”), Aunt Kathy, “Mom” and “Grandma”. Kathy, age 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at 14:09 Saturday, March 4, 2017 after a protracted illness. She was in her own house, in her own bed, surrounded by friends and family. In the words of Chris Tomlin, “Her chains are gone, she’s been set free”. She is no longer bound by the woes of this worldly earth, but lives on in a Heavenly place. Kathy is survived by Leonard J. Barnes, Jr. (Brother, Surprise, AZ) Tena Lynn (Barnes) Coffey (niece, Surprise, AZ), James J. Shaw (great nephew, Grand Rapids) and Clifford A. Wade (long time friend, companion and caregiver, Waterford). While Kathy had no natural children, she left behind to grieve her passing scores of people who called her Mom, Grandma and Aunt Kathy, ranging in age from preschool to senior citizens. There is no one who met her that did not know that they had come in contact with a beautiful soul. Kathy was born 11/28/1923 in Schenectady, New York to Leonard J. and Frances (Pierce) Barnes, Sr. She became a life long resident of Oakland County at age 11. She graduated from Pontiac High School in 1941 with an emphasis on secretarial training. After graduation she worked at various Oakland County businesses moving up in levels of responsibility with each change of employment. Pontiac Spring Products Co. (one woman office, all accounting and general (1941-42)), Wilson Foundry & Machine Co. (Secretary to, then Purchasing Agent (1942-46)), Whizzer (motor bikes) Industries, Inc. (Various positions & departments, finally as Manager of Parts and Service worldwide (1946-64)), Walled Lake Manufacturing Co. (Customer Service & Accounting Manager (1964-66)), Carbet Corp. (Comptroller, Secretary/Treasurer, Board of Directors (1966-85)). After retiring, Kathy did not stop serving her community. She worked as a “Pink Lady” volunteer at POH (now McLaren) for many years, then moved to St. Joseph’s Hospital to serve from 1990 until 2010. Kathy was also an active member of First General Baptist Church of Drayton Plains (now Waterford), serving the Ladies Auxiliary, Mission Board and as an Assistant Church Treasurer for over 20 years until May, 2014. At her death, Kathy was an active member of North Oaks Community Church in Clarkston. Kathy was the widow of three service veterans representing the US Navy, the US Army and the US Marine Corps. She will be honored at her burial by the VFW Color Guard and Rifle Team. A Celebration of Kathy’s Life will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March11, 2017, at First General Baptist Church, Waterford. Pastor Thomas W. Miller and Pastor Steve Brown officiating. Interment Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens, Novi. The family will receive friends at Donelson, Johns and Evans Funeral Home, Waterford, Friday 4-8 p.m. and First General Baptist Church, Saturday 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to your local church’s children’s ministry or one of Kathy’s favorite charities: Crossroads Care Center (Auburn Hills), Grace Centers of Hope (Women & Children’s Ministry, Pontiac), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, TN) or Salvation Army (Bed & Breakfast Club, Pontiac).
