Charles Edward Sornig, Sr. "Ed"  (July 25, 1939-October 18, 2014) of
Waterford. Passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. Age 75. Ed was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Taylor) Sornig “Betty”. They were happily married for 57 years and had 10 children. Loving father of Chuck (Joy), Joanie Ikeler (Derek), Steve (Tina), Barb Tegart (the late Jon), John (Shelly), Jim (Betsy), Jerry (Jenny), Cathy Guest (Jim), David (Jen), and Tom (Heather). Ed was the doting grandfather of 30 grandchildren: Amanda, DJ, Matthew, Stephen, Ryan, Jason, Christina, Kaitlyn, Jenny, Ashley, Chelsea, Andrew, Spenser, Cassie, Maddie, Daniel, Jonathan, Audrey, Hannah, Thomas, Kevin, Juliana, Scott, Brooklyn, Mya, Abby, Paige, Haley, Mallory and Micah. He also had 5 great-grandchildren; Hayden, MJ, Tommy, Wyatt and Dakota. Edward was the loving son of the late Mildred Trudeau. He was the brother of Marci Dobrowolski (Bob); brother-in-law of Dolores Hockenberry (the late Bill), Mary Filhart (Ed), Sally Taylor, George Taylor (the late Janet), Bob Taylor (Karen), the late Don Taylor, Joyce Taylor, Janet Gilbert (John), and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Sornig was retired from Fisher Body Pontiac/GM Lake Orion. He was a member of St. Perpetua Catholic Church, Waterford and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1957 graduate of St. Michael Catholic School. He was also a published editorial writer for the Oakland Press where he wrote many letters to the Editorial/Opinion page. Charles will lie in state at St. Perpetua Catholic Church Tuesday, October 21, 2014, 10:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jack H. Baker celebrant. Rite of Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Donelson Johns and Evans Funeral Home, Waterford, Monday 2-8 p.m. Rosary Monday 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center For Success Pontiac, 245 E. Rundell, Pontiac, MI 48342.
